Stephen King Joins Call for Biden Not to Run in 2024
Author Stephen King has become the latest celebrity to take to social media urging President Joe Biden to refrain from running for re-election in 2024, emphasizing it is “in the interests” of the country.
Over the years, King has established himself as a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, who is once again in the race for the presidency this year.
King’s recent criticism of Biden aligns with a growing chorus of voices, including other celebrities and some Democratic lawmakers, particularly after Biden’s underwhelming performance at the first presidential debate last month.
“Joe Biden has been a fine president, but it’s time for him — in the interests of the America he so clearly loves — to announce he will not run for re-election,” King wrote on X.
The post caught the eye of X owner Elon Musk, who quipped, “even Stephen King is voting for Trump.” While Musk has become increasingly critical of Biden and his administration in recent years, he has clarified that he will not be financially supporting either Biden or Trump.
In a recent telephone interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Biden addressed concerns about his electability by challenging Democrats to “challenge me at the convention” next month.
He also released a letter affirming his intent to stay in the race.
Biden’s appearance on Morning Joe impressed The Princess Bride director Rob Reiner, who noted that if Biden continues to perform as he did in the interview, it would “shut up people like me who think he should step aside.”
Just a day before, Reiner had expressed frustration, stating it was “time to stop f***ing around” and for Biden to step down.
Abigail Disney, the daughter of Disney co-founder Roy Disney, has also voiced her discontent, stating she will withdraw her financial support for the Democratic Party unless Biden is replaced by another candidate.
She praised Vice President Kamala Harris as “an excellent vice president” and suggested the party could secure a significant victory in the 2024 election with her as the nominee.
Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson is among several notable Democrats calling for Biden to drop out of the race. She criticized the Democratic National Committee for not fostering a competitive primary process, suggesting this strategy has backfired and poses a risk of voter apathy come November 5.
As the debate over Biden’s candidacy intensifies, it reflects broader concerns within the Democratic Party about ensuring a strong candidate to face the challenges of the upcoming election.
